Are you facing operating system problems with your MacBook? At iRepairs, we have the answers you are looking for. From safe mode to reinstalling macOS, we offer you proven and effective solutions to resolve any issue with your MacBook's operating system. Don't let problems stop you!

Solve problems with safe mode

Safe mode is a useful tool to diagnose software-related problems on your Mac. By starting up in safe mode, specific software such as login items and unnecessary extensions is prevented from loading, which can help you identify the cause of the problem.

For Mac with Apple Silicon

  • Turn off the computer.
  • Turn it on again and press and hold the power button until the startup options screen appears.
  • Select the startup disk and then hold down the «Shift» key and click «Continue in Safe Mode».

The computer will restart automatically. If necessary, log in again.

For Mac with an Intel processor

  • Turn on or restart the computer and hold down the «Shift» key until the login window appears.
  • Release the key and log in. The words «Safe Boot» should appear in the top right corner of the screen.

If the problem persists even in safe mode, you may need to reinstall macOS.

Reinstall macOS

macOS Recovery offers an easy and convenient way to reinstall your Mac's operating system.

How do you start up from macOS Recovery?

Make sure the computer has an internet connection. Turn on the Mac and follow the instructions according to the type of processor:

  • For Apple Silicon: press and hold the power button until the startup options screen appears. Go to «Options» and click «Continue».
  • For Mac with an Intel processor: turn on the Mac and press Command (⌘)-R at the same time. Hold the keys down until the Apple logo or another screen appears. Then, select the user profile and follow the prompts.

When you reinstall macOS, the data on your Mac will not be deleted. Simply click «Reinstall macOS» in the Utilities tab within macOS Recovery and follow the on-screen instructions.

If you are asked to unlock the disk, use the password you would normally use to log in to the computer.

If the disk is not recognized or a warning message appears, you may need to erase the disk's contents and settings before continuing. Don't forget to make a backup before performing this step.

Make sure to install macOS on Macintosh HD if necessary

Let the installation process complete without interruptions, as the Mac may restart several times during the process.

Additional tips

In addition to the methods mentioned above, here are some additional tips that can help you keep your MacBook running smoothly:

  1. Keep your Mac updated: make sure that both the macOS operating system and the applications are always up to date. The updates usually include bug fixes and performance improvements that can resolve existing problems.
  2. Perform regular maintenance: regularly clean your Mac's hard drive by removing unnecessary files, caches and applications you no longer use. It is also advisable to run Activity Monitor to identify and close processes that may be consuming unnecessary resources.
  3. Make regular backups: do not underestimate the importance of making periodic backups of your important data. Use Time Machine or other backup solutions to make sure that your files are protected in case of system failure or data loss.
