How to migrate from Android to iOS easily

Anyone who changes their smartphone and makes the transition from one with an Android system to one with an iOS system (that is, the iPhone) may have difficulties transferring their data from one mobile phone to another, since the two are profoundly different. However, you don't have to worry, you need to know that you only need to spend a little time on the migration and you will be able to use your new iPhone immediately, without losing all the data you had on your old Android smartphone.

In this guide from iRepairs, we will show you the various methods to switch from Android to iOS easily without losing your contacts, photos and other data, without suffering any loss on your new phone and forgetting about your old Android, which you can therefore recycle or sell.

What to keep in mind before migrating from Android to iOS

Before starting the process, it is essential that we connect both devices to power and activate the WiFi connection. We also need to make sure that all the content we want to transfer, including that of the external Micro SD card, fits in the internal memory of our new iOS phone. In addition, if we also want to transfer Chrome bookmarks, it will be necessary to update to the most recent version of Chrome on the Android device.

Use the 'Move to iOS' app

Once you are clear on the premises, you will need to turn on the iPhone and start the setup by selecting “Transfer data from Android”. The first way to switch from Android to iPhone is by using the Android application, developed by Apple and adapted to make the change as painless as possible.

You will need to download “Move to iOS”, from Google Play. Once downloaded, you will have to open it and also accept the terms and conditions of the migration.

At that moment, the iPhone will create a private WiFi network, so that the two devices can see each other and transfer data quickly, and it will detect your Android device through the 'Move to iOS' app and will show you a security code (of six or ten digits) for you to enter on your old phone.

At this point, we can start choosing which data we want to transfer. You will be asked if you want to transfer your Google account information (so that you can quickly sign in from your new iPhone), Chrome bookmarks, text messages, contacts and photos and videos. Some of the applications you had on the Android phone, but which are also compatible with iOS devices, will be downloaded automatically.

Use Google sync

Another effective method to migrate from Android to iOS is to use your Google account. Google applications also work very well on iPhone, so there is no reason to do without them and even if you change phones you can continue using the various services they offer.

Now you will need to have the data, such as your contacts, synced with your Google account, as well as photos and other data. Another option would be to manually store all the files you want in Google Drive.

For the second step you will need to go to the iPhone and follow these steps:

  • For contacts: go to Settings > Contacts > Add Account and choose your Google account to then import your contacts.
  • For photos and videos: you have to download Google Photos on the iOS device from the App Store, sign in with your Google account and in a moment you will have all your images and videos.
  • For the rest of the files: if you added files to Google Drive, you will only have to download the app on your iPhone, sign in and you will have access to all the content.

Tenorshare WhatsApp Transfer

To transfer all the WhatsApp information to other devices we have Tenorshare WhatsApp Transfer, an app that offers a very intuitive design so that you have no problem when moving your conversations, photos, videos and other files to another device, even an iOS one.

Among its most notable features it is worth mentioning that Tenorshare WhatsApp Transfer also provides the opportunity to make backups to store all the data on your PC or laptop.

Via iCloud Drive

iCloud Drive is the name given to Apple's cloud storage service, which is also available for Android via web. The procedure you need to follow to transfer files from one to the other this way is by accessing the iCloud website from your Android phone's browser. Once you have done so, you will have to sign in with your Apple ID and password.

When you access iCloud Drive you will be able to add your files manually, creating folders and organising everything to your liking. Once it is uploaded, and having already set up the iPhone, you will have to open the “Files” app on it and access the iCloud Drive tab, where you will find everything uploaded from the Android.
