My iMac won't turn on

What to do if my iMac won't turn on?

Let's say that today you arrived at the office, and your Apple computer no longer responds; when we press the power button it does nothing, or it doesn't reach the system.

If your iMac won't turn on, we'll try to revive it, or at least get an idea about the fault.

Step 1 – Check the power input; we must check the power input cable, and whether there is any kind of extension cord.

Step 2 – If we are still out of luck, we must try to do an electrical discharge of the equipment; for this we disconnect all the peripherals and the power input of our Apple computer, and we hold down the power button for 30 seconds, let it rest for 5 minutes, and try again.

ATTENTION

If we have reached this step and the computer still does not respond, we have a fault in the iMac's Power Supply, it has a Motherboard problem; you will find more information here. To solve the iMac won't turn on problem.

If we hear that the computer turns on, its fan spins, or it even emits the startup sound, but nothing is seen on the screen, it is possible that we are facing a Graphics failure; you can find more information here.

Step 3 – If we have reached this point it means that our computer does not access the system (it stays on the apple), or we have a folder with the ? symbol. At this point we have several recovery options

  1. The first and most effective thing, run a reset to the PVRAM and NVRAM; start the computer (you will hear the "chan") and before the gray screen appears hold down theCommand + Option + P + R keys. It is important to keep the keys pressed until you hear the "chan" sound again and confirm that the Mac has restarted.
  2. Disconnect all devices, including keyboard and mouse. This way we will be ruling out that there is any conflict between system and devices
  3. Space on the local disk may be the problem preventing our system from starting; for the recovery of disk space it is accessible through "Target Mode", or also through an external system.
